The Milan Furniture Fair has elected former Assarredo president Maria Porro its new president. Federlegno Arredo Eventi Board of Directors has elected this former President of Assarredo- the Italian trade association for furniture manufacturers to helm the worlds pre-eminent international design event. She was the first female President at Assarredo- and is repeating this distinction here in Salone by becoming the first woman appointed to this position. She succeeds Claudio Luti, who resigned as President in April this year, saying his vision for the fair had "failed." Read SURFACES REPORTER (SR) complete report below:

Maria Porro, Salone del Mobile.Milanos new president takes over the reins at a time of profound change for the design event which was not held in 2020 due to pandemic situation and rescheduled in April this year.
"I am honoured to take on this role at such a vital and transformative time," Maria Porro said. "I and the entire board of directors will be working to ensure that, as a unique and indispensable design showcase, the Salone rises to meet future challenges regarding sustainability, digitalization, research, innovation, creativity and inclusiveness, as ever maintaining the highest quality. Our goal is a strong, united, inclusive, sustainable and creative Salone del Mobile," she further added.
Gianfranco Marinelli, President of Federlegno Arredo Eventi said that the decision to invest in a young, driven president is part of a strategy to consolidate the events leading international role during a period of profound change.

"Maria Porro may count on the support of the entire Federlegno Arredo Eventi Board as, with determination, she continues Salone del Mobile. Milanos journey along a pathway of growth and renewal."
Along with Federlegno Arredo Eventis board members, Porro will now take over the brand as it plans for a distinctive Supersalone edition in September. They will altogether outline new strategies to respond to the current situations disturbances and reconcile the general publics, exhibitors and international stakeholders requirements.
Salone del Mobile 2021 and parallel fuorisalone events are expected to take place in Milan from 5 to 10 September.

Born in 1983, in 2015 Maria Porro became marketing and communications director at historic Italian design brand Porro S.p.A. After serving on the Executive Board at Assarredo, in September 2020 she was unanimously elected president of the trade association for Italys furniture manufacturers. In 2019, she became a Board member of the Altagamma Foundation.
